“IF” function is a logical function which returns one value if the condition is met otherwise it returns other value.
Below is the list of students along with their marks. We will use the “IF function” to arrive at the number of students passed the exams.
Passing criteria is 40 or more marks, less than that, the student is in trouble.
Step 1: Apply the following formula in Column E (cell E2) =IF(D2>=40,”Pass”,”Fail”).
Step 2: Copy the formula from Cell E2 to the last entry i.e cell E21.
Your results status is ready.
IF function or IF statement in excel in advance form
In this section, we will look at a situation where more than two conditions are involved. We have a list of students with marks in %. We are going to apply IF function to find their respective “Grades”.
Step 1: The formula in Column J will be =IF(I5>=85,”A”,IF(I5>=75,”B”,IF(I5>=65,”C”,”Need of Improvement”)))
If the respective marks does not fit into given grades range, the formula will give us the message “Need of Improvement”
Step 2: Copy and Paste the formula to the lower cells. your final results are given below.
