V Lookup stands for Vertical Lookup is an excel function that looks at the leftmost column in a table. By looking at the leftmost column and returns a value from another column in the same row that we specify. For example, if you are trying to find values in employees list, the most suitable criteria is employee number. Vlookup formula works from left to right means the criteria column should be to the left and other data should be on the right side. Lets learn how to do a vlookup in excel.


In the above image, Product Number/Name is unique. Column B (2nd Column) will give us the price of the product and put it in Column I (Cell I4).

Formula for Vlookup is =VLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, col_index_num,[range_lookup])

Lookup_value in our case is in Cell G4 (Product Name), Table_array is from $A$3:$B$16, col_index_num is 2 (2nd Column consist of Price of the product that we want to pick,0.

We are putting 0 at the end in case the price of the Part number we are looking for is not found in the list. Now place the values and our formula will look like this: =VLOOKUP(G4,$A$3:$B$16,2,0)
